In July 1998 a fire was lit underneath the floor of the church The walls and floor were badll burnt but the Communion Table and many other furnishings were not destroyed.
Andrew Fielding, a member of St. Peter's was Captain of the Shoalhaven Heads Rural Fire Service and a quick response by him and his team prevented the entire church building being destroyed.
With rebuilding necessary it seemed a good time to enlarge the the church enabling a 25% increase in seating. The congregatiion returned to the rebuilt church in December, 1999 on the church's 38th Anniversary.
